4 years ago today, at 11:03am, my baby girl was making her way into this world.
I will never forget the nurses talking about how much dark hair she had and my father commenting on the fact that she was a little "dago"! How that term had always been used to describe the best features of our Italian blood, the dark, dark hair and olive skin. All of which she was blessed with.
I only saw her briefly in the OR and would not hold her for another 6 hours or so. In the nursery, she couldn't hold her temperature, so she needed to stay under the warmer for longer than normal.
But when the nurse finally brought her to me, it was the most wonderful feeling in the world. She was beautiful. So dainty, with tiny fingers and toes. And her head was perfectly round without a mark. That night I held her until my arms ached.
So today, we will celebrate her 4th Birthday! My baby girl is now, at least what she refers to herself as, a "Big Girl!". I can do it myself is a term we hear often. She is sassy and witty and always right there to provide some sort of comic relief. But, she is also loving and caring and, I swear, was born with a vocabulary larger than mine. Her brain is always moving a mile a minute looking for a new adventure.
Today, she is celebrating her Birthday at the Crayon factory with her grandparents. And later, we will sing Happy Birthday with ice cream cake and gift opening. And after it's all said and done, everyone will go home, the kids will be in bed, and I will be alone with my thoughts of the day she was born, and how proud I was then. And how proud I am today, of my baby girl....growing up.
Pictures and video to come..........

Birthdays are great days to remember birth stories! Congratulations to you and happy birthday to your big girl who will always be your baby.

A big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you J girl. This is some wonderful, reflective writing. She is a lucky girl to have a mommy who loves her so much. Blessings to you and her (and the whole family) on this special day.
